It is difficult to distinguish between the personal and Crown wealth of several ruling monarchs upon this list, particularly in countries ruled by an absolute monarch that do not have a need or practicality to separate the two. Many constitutional monarchies require a distinction between amonarch’s personal finances from the monarch’s state finances as a matter of law, thus several royals upon this list may have figures that underestimate their total financial standing because the wealth of their Crown is excluded. An example would be Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, whose personal wealth was estimated in 2007 to be about US$600 million, while her Crown property (that is, Crown Property in right of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) as was estimated at about US$10 billion.
